Vegan and Plant Based Diets for Sjogren’s Syndrome – Do they work? | Medical Doctor Explains

For our clients, we help design custom diet plans based on several key criteria: Microbiome Specificity, Phytonutrients, Macronutrients, and Food Sensitivity. These four criteria help determine whether any type of diet will work for managing Sjogren’s Syndrome symptoms during a flare, as well as healing inflammation over time, to reach remission. In this video, we review many popular diets out there, and compare them to the Mind-Gut-Immunity method.

the best outcomes so stick around [Music] hey I’m Dr chanod Dosser a surgeon dedicated to reducing inflammation caused by gut microbiome imbalances i myself struggled with digestive dysfunction and autoimmune inflammation in my early 20s and successfully put together a methodology that worked not only in me but also my patients my method is called the mind gut immunity approach and has resulted in thousands of successes over the years if you or someone you know has struggles with shogun syndrome and wants to rid themselves of inflammation for good check out our website mgic clinic.com and schedule a discovery call with me i’ll walk you through some practical steps for shogun syndrome recovery and how to achieve lasting results in just 6 weeks on the website we also have multitudes of free resources on how you can eliminate shogun syndrome naturally to help get you started so check out the link in the description below and get started also before I forget hit the like and follow to receive more content such as this all right let’s jump in here’s a 2024 study on three Shrogance patients who experienced rapid and dramatic improvements in their symptoms after adopting a predominantly raw plant-based diet and here’s a 2022 study exploring how a plant-based diet can improve symptoms and inflammation in shogun syndrome most rheatologists will tell you that diet doesn’t matter for shogrin syndrome so how do we know what truly works as I mentioned in my other video called Ideal Diet for Shogrin Syndrome I strongly recommend customized phytonutrient-based diet plans tailored to each individual i use four key criteria to determine whether a diet will work for Shogun syndrome or not these diets don’t need to be entirely vegan or plant-based by the way to recap the four criteria are phytonutrients macronutrient requirements microbiome specificity and food sensitivity if you need a detailed explanation check out that other video ideal diet for Shogun Syndrome but for now I’ll give you a quick summary in this video so now let’s discuss plant-based diets and how they compare to other dietary approaches such as the phyto diet which is what I recommend for shogrin syndrome from some of my other videos you may remember the concept of complex protein certain complex proteins can trigger an immune response worsening shogrin symptoms we eat protein in our diets it can come from a variety of sources both plant and animal a protein is basically a bunch of amino acids connected together when the protein enters our digestive system enzymes in our intestine break up these into individual components called amino acids which then get absorbed these intestinal enzymes are called proteasis and the reason this is relevant is sometimes the proteasis don’t get the job done and we’re left with large particles of protein that linger in our intestines and bloodstream for long periods of time why does this happen well certain types of protein are hard to break down also there may not be enough protease to break down the proteins as you already know the gut is just one big giant immune organ so these incompletely digested proteins register as a foreign threat and generate an immune response basically the body thinks it’s under attack by these large undigested proteins so then it secretes a bunch of immune chemicals which cause inflammation and that can be a problem next you also have the arachidonic acid pathway which is directly related to the consumption of animal-based cholesterol all animal cells have a membrane wall that contains fats and cholesterol which convert into arachidonic acid and cytoines in our bodies and generate inflammation do all animal-derived products contain arachidonic acid no just meat and fat containing dairy products you also have problems with saturated fat causing inflammation this is why vegan diets sometimes work for shogun syndrome they eliminate these inflammatory foods however vegan and plant-based diets also have their own challenges which is what I’ll discuss later in this video the vegan diet for shogans is centered entirely on plant-based foods and tends to emphasize higher fiber and carbohydrate intake compared to fats and proteins while lacto or oovearian options exist we’ll focus on fully plant-based diets in this discussion this diet substitutes animal-based products such as vegan meats cheeses and butter alternatives and many of these things are made from cashew soy or coconut oil and are designed to mimic traditional animal-based foods examples can include Beyond Meat Impossible Meat Dia cheese and plant-based milk options like soy oat or coconut milk the primary aim of this diet is to reduce inflammation effects typically associated with meat and dairy products but here’s the thing remember the four criteria we discussed let’s take a closer look at how this diet holds up over time so let’s dive into the first criteria phytonutrients phytonutrients are micronutrients derived from plant-based superfoods these compounds are loaded with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that can benefit individuals with shogun syndrome by reducing inflammation and supporting overall immune health here’s a 2021 study that reviews the potential benefits of using natural bioactive compounds such as polyphenols to alleviate dry eye and dry mouth symptoms in shogrin syndrome and here’s one from 2020 discussing the therapeutic effects of herbal supplements on primary shogun symptoms phytonutrients fall into several key categories such as polyphenols tarpen thiocyanates fiber resistant starches omega fats and alkaloids these micronutrients play a critical role in reducing inflammation throughout the body beginning in the gut when following a vegan or plant-based diet for shogrin syndrome it’s important to consume large amounts of phytonutrients but this requires careful attention to food choices if your vegan diet is heavy in processed flour sugar or fake meats and cheeses these foods may lack phytonutrients and instead include chemicals that aggravate inflammation which would be counterproductive however a more balanced diet that includes resistant starches fiber omega oils and a variety of herbs and whole vegetables can deliver the phytonutrients necessary to help manage and heal shogrin syndrome now let’s talk about macronutrient requirements the vegan and plant-based diets for shogrin syndrome often fall short when it comes to fulfilling macronutrient needs macronutrients include carbs fats and proteins by entering your height and weight and activity into the calculator on my website you can estimate your specific macronutrient requirements in general a diet that gets half of its calories from fat normally is a good thing although I don’t particularly like the saturated fats in meats or certain plant-based foods because as I’ve said before saturated fats are associated with inflammatory processes i also don’t like the animal-based cholesterol meat which can lead to increases in arachidonic acid levels in the body and I describe both of these pathways of Schroin syndrome inflammation in my other videos on my channel so if you need a refresher feel free to take a look at those videos when I design diets for my Shogun’s clients they’re generally lower in carbs for obvious reasons most of the fats are also coming from plant-based omega sources so these problems are totally avoided i also ensure that at least 100 grams of protein are in the diet each day which can be challenging if you’re relying solely on plant-based foods you’ll likely need to incorporate protein shakes made from plant-based protein sources finally vegan diets for sugar syndrome often overlook proper balances of carbohydrates fats and proteins they also frequently fail to track fiber intake which is important for optimizing gut microbiome health which takes me to my third point which is let’s look at microbiome specificity let’s revisit this equation fad bacteria and fungi feed on carbs leading to inflammation vegan diets tend to be higher in carbs and some of these carbs can be less helpful so do vegan diets lead to healthier bacteria the answer is a clear no and I know this might sound controversial because there are claims on YouTube and Reddit suggesting that vegan diets improve gut microbiome diversity but let me provide a practical perspective i’ve reviewed hundreds if not thousands of stool studies in my career and most of the people that have followed vegan diets for shogrin syndrome do not select for good bacteria in their intestines through their diet the very nature of shogrin syndrome involves inflammation caused by dysfunctional gut microbiome so at the start of our program we use patented probiotics from Japan to recalibrate the gut microbiome and eliminate harmful bacteria and we do this first but how do you promote the growth of good bacteria it’s not by avoiding carbs it’s by selecting the right ratios and quantities of phytonutrients and this is where the mind gut immunity method truly excels we designed shrogance diets that encourage specific strains of beneficial bacteria which form a protective bofilm and push out harmful bacteria and fungi over time this reduces pro-inflammatory cytoines like TNF alpha and interlucan 6 in the body the biggest issue with the vegan diet for shogun syndrome is that it doesn’t address the root cause it often feeds bad bacteria non- selectively because there’s no emphasis on resistant starch or fiber vegan diets also allow for plant-based sugars carbs and chemicals which can worsen symptoms and I’ve seen people improve temporarily but struggle later because the diet doesn’t resolve gut microbiome dysfunction however a plant-based diet can work for shogrin syndrome if specific principles are followed and this is where the phyto diet comes in it targets the root microbiome problems associated with shogrin syndrome and this approach allows for long-term dietary flexibility including cheat meals without adverse effects and I typically teach my clients how to incorporate cheat meals during the second or third month of the program because by then most of the gut issues have resolved sustainably while the vegan diets for shrogans can help during flare-ups it’s not a sustainable long-term strategy compared to the customized phyto diets that we create for our clients long term let’s move on to the final criteria food sensitivities are a key focus when treating shogun syndrome and in my talks I often cover the four main types of food sensitivity tests available skin prick test the IG blood test the IGG4 blood test and the newer mediator release blood test for a detailed explanation of these tests feel free to watch my other videos discussing food sensitivity testing for shogrin syndrome while vegan diets may seem beneficial many plant-based foods can trigger sensitivities the most notable example include processed foods sugars sugar alcohol dyes chemicals and even whole food proteins like beans lentils and peas over the years I’ve seen these show up on sensitivity tests this emphasizes the considerable risk of reacting to either one or more vegan or plant-based foods and that’s why adopting a vegan and plant-based approach to shogrin syndrome can be risky it restricts your food options and increases the likelihood of developing additional sensitivities all right that’s my talk in the comment below share with me your experience with shogrin syndrome and vegan diets what worked for you and what didn’t i would love to hear about your journey as you know I’ve had great success using the mind gut immunity method with my clients and I strongly advocate for customized phyto diets and focused gut microbiome recalibration to achieve lasting results if you found this video helpful don’t forget to like and subscribe for more content such as this as
